Director, Emergency Services

This position is responsible for direction of daily operations, overall management of department staff and support of patient care activities in the Emergency Department AHMC Anaheim Regional Medical Center (“ARMC”) on a 24-hour basis.  This position requires a Registered Nurse who is responsible for the management of human resources, physician relations, staff development, quality improvement activities and patient/family education using a multidisciplinary approach to integrate the functional operations within the services.

The Director, Emergency Services is responsible for operational oversight and direction of the Emergency Department, ARMC through program development, operational improvement, financial performance and organizational change.

• Integrate Emergency services with ARMC’s primary functions.

• Coordinate and integrate services within Emergency Services and with other departments.
• Develop and implement policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of services.
• Recommend a sufficient number of qualified and competent persons to provide care.
• Determine the qualifications and competence of licensed and unlicensed practitioners.
• Continuously assess and improve performance of the Emergency Department.
• Maintain appropriate quality control programs.
• Provide for the orientation, in-service training, and continuing education of all Emergency staff.
• Participate in selecting outside sources for needed services.

1. Licensed RN with minimum of 5 years progressive management responsibility or related administrative experience.
2. BSN required; Master’s Degree in Nursing or Business preferred.
3. Minimum of 5 years clinical Emergency and Critical Care nursing experience with sound clinical assessment skills, along with the ability to make independent decisions regarding patient care.
4. Evidence of current successful completion of the Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) courses of the AHA, and Management of Assaultive Behavior – PALS and MAB required within 90 days of hire.
5. Education and experience in Process Improvement, Change Theory and Team Building.
6. Demonstrated leadership experience including personnel management, cost reduction, productivity enhancement, and interdisciplinary practice with emphasis on quality/performance improvement within designated department responsibilities.
7. Experience in working and problem solving with physicians, administration, and hospital staff.
8. Highly developed sense of initiative and flexibility, along with good judgment and analytical skills.
9. A management style that is open, team-oriented, collaborative, and based on trust and personal integrity.
10. Effective motivational, written, and verbal communication skills.
11. Experience with technology and ability to participate actively in the selection and purchase of capital equipment.
12. Comprehensive knowledge of regulatory requirements including Title 22 and Joint Commission.
