Dental Assisting Externship Coordinator

American Career College

This is a Full-time position in Anaheim, CA posted July 11, 2022.

SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Director, Career Services and with an indirect reporting relationship to the Program Director, is responsible for coordinating, facilitating, and supervising the externship training. This includes student transition from class work to externship to graduate in preparation for placements. Locates, maintains, and acquires new externship sites and contracts; schedules and supervises students externship assignments; advises students and provides classroom instruction in accordance with the program s objectives. Assists students in gaining meaningful employment in jobs applicable to their field of study.
Guides students with the job search process, including teaching workshops and critiquing resumes. Provides excellent customer service to current and graduating students in accordance with the mission and purpose of the college. Coordinates and assists graduates with job interviews and obtaining entry-level healthcare career opportunities.

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:

Understands the principles, theories, and concepts of the professional discipline through practical experience. Two or more years of relevant experience general required.

Two (2) to three (3) years of experience working with or in extern sites, placing student, and coordinating related documents preferred.

Experience with MS Office.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:

Must hold a valid, active, current license as a Certified or Registered Dental Assistant (CDA or RDA) and have been licensed for a minimum of two (2) years.

Must possess a Certificate of Completion of a course in teaching methodology of at least 30 hours or must be obtained within six (6) months.

If licensed prior to July 1, 2009 must provide certificates from board-approved course in the application of Pit and Fissure Sealant, Coronal Polishing, Radiation Safety and Infection Control.

Current CPR Card.

Current CPR Certified Instructor Card preferred.

EDUCATION:

High School Graduate or equivalent.

Must be a graduate from a program accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) in the specialty field or subject area preferred.

Must have a minimum of three (3) years of experience in the practice setting or area of expertise for which they are training students.

Must demonstrate training in educational methods, testing and evaluation and evidence of strength in instructional methodology, delivery, and techniques as indicated by evaluation by supervisory personnel within 30 days of beginning instruction.
