POSITION DESCRIPTION & OVERVIEWTitle: Resident Assistant Specialist (Security)Reports To: Director of Site-Based Housing ServicesSchedule: 25/Wk., Varies, EveningsCompensation: $19.00/HourJob Classification: Full-time, Hourly, Non-exempt.Union Representation: This position is not a union represented positionThe Resident Assistant Specialist (RSP) position focuses on enhancing the quality of life in the housing building by being attentive to the safety and security of residents and the building.

This position requires an individual who is flexible enough to take on variety of roles as dictated by the changing needs of the clients, and flexibility in scheduling.

The RSP interacts with a wide range of people inside and outside the organization’s setting.

It is crucial that an individual be able to relate well to others and handle crisis situations.

The RSP is more than just a friendly presence; they are the crucial link in creating an environment in which residents develop independence and learn to live cooperatively with others.

A sense of community occurs when the members of the community respect each other’s needs and rights.

The RSP must be able to react to and respond to medical and mental health emergencies.

They must have the ability to convey a positive and professional image to clients, staff and visitors.

The RSP must be able to maintain client confidentiality.

In addition, this position will require flexibility in scheduling and providing shift coverage.

Nights and weekends will be required.

Timeliness in arrival and departure of shifts are essential for the safety of the residents and to ensure compliance of Group Residential Housing.

The Resident Assistant Specialist will primarily work with the Resident Assistant (RA) as a team.

When there is not a RA on site, the Resident Support Specialist will be required to fulfill some of the duties of the RA while also fulfilling duties of the RSP position.

Examples of duties of the RA that would need to be fulfilled include but are not limited to: dispensing medications to clients, hand out room keys, answer incoming phone calls, greet incoming staff, clients and visitors; provide clients and visitor with information and directions as needed, and sign for packages.PRIMARY DUTIES AND EXPECTATIONSManage & supervise resident activity and responsibilities while maintaining a visible presence on the unit.

Assist clients in maintaining housing stability through adherence to client rules and productive behavior.

This includes providing appropriate interventions, such as de-escalation and resolution skills when there are disputes among residents.Complete regular rounds checking and securing all exits, fire doors, and safety equipment, as well as monitoring residents’ activities in common areas to ensure safety and security.Respond to and submit incident reports for all instances of substance use, theft, threats and violations of program rules.

Promptly report client safety and behavior issues to supervisor.Provide escorts to staff and visitors as needed.Must be able to monitor and respond to emergencies including fire, severe weather, first aid, CPR, etc.Perform searches of facility rooms, resident rooms, and resident belongings for any contraband.Perform client breathalyzer and drug screens as requested.Perform key inventory, review all late/overnight passes, and perform room checks to ensure all residents are present accordingly.Assist with securing personal belongings of residents who depart.When needed, administer the Medication Assistance Program to aid clients in proper use of their medications.Enforce pest control procedures.Notify proper staff of any maintenance concerns and/or safety issues.Perform general rounds of facility and grounds and report any concerns.Ensure that no unauthorized vehicles are parked in the House of Charity parking lot.Maintain Key Control Procedure.Administrative:Understand and follow incident/accident reporting policies and procedures.Maintain daily log, forwarding pertinent information to next shift and supervisor.Understand and follow vulnerable adult policy and mandated reporting procedures.Document and communicate maintenance needs to Facilities Department.Know and follow program emergency procedures.Understand and follow emergency fire and weather policies and procedures.Safeguard personally identifiable health information (PHI) in accordance with duties and current agency HIPAA notification statement and standards.Participate in staff trainings as required.When needed, greet guests and provides information in a respectful manner.When needed, answer telephone and record messages.Attend training events and staff meetings as required by your supervisor.Promote positive, safe, harmonious, productive and challenging work environment.Performs all other duties, as assigned.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS POSITION Medium work
– Standing most of the time.

Occasionally exerting up to 50 pounds of force, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSHigh School diploma or GED.Experience working with culturally diverse populations who are experiencing serious life challenges.

Highly dependable, timely, flexible, and effective in managing multiple tasks.Medication Administration certified or must complete designated Medication Administration course within first 30 days if not already certified in medication distributionCPR/First Aid certified.Current Mantoux test.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSEducation and/or experience and training in human services or related field.One year practical work experience in the security field.AGENCY COVID-19 REQUIREMENTSAgate Housing and Services maintains a COVID-19 preparedness plan that mitigates the transmission and spread of COVID-19.
