Sr. Electrical Design Engineer


This is a Full-time position in Anaheim, CA posted March 8, 2022.

Supernal is at the forefront of creating emerging mobility solutions that will foster the development of human-centered cities. We are designing a completely new electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft tailored to the mobility needs of future cities. This allows passengers a seamless intermodal journey that safely transports them to their final destination. What we do:

The Electrical Design Engineer will be responsible for developing design solutions that support the overall long-term goals of the product. The role will create standard processes and procedures within their subject area while partnering with the design team throughout the conceptual, preliminary, and detail design. The position will be heavily involved in the building of prototype and flight test aircraft, as well as incubating technology that will later transition to the operations/production team. This position will work closely with all technical development teams, including systems, interiors, flight technology, and airframe.

What you can do:

  • Apply knowledge of electricity, and electrical circuits to design and develop a cabin interior electrical system such as Electrical Wiring Interconnect Systems (EWIS), lighting cameras, speakers including active noise cancellation, illuminated safety signs, attendant call buttons, etc.
  • Modify designs based on cost, weight, manufacturing targets and capabilities
  • Confirm system and component capabilities by crafting testing methods and procedures.
  • Design electrical components, assemblies, systems, and products based on derived requirements
  • Create and maintain product reports, various manuals/templates, SOP’s, and user documentation for production.
  • Evaluate electrical systems, products, components, and applications by way of researching, designing, and testing.
  • Derive electrical, EMI, wiring and connector specifications from system performance requirements.
  • Support the fabrication efforts of the prototype and follow prototype designs from concept to manufacture.
  • Work in partnerships with different departments to understand project design requirements, verify capabilities, and to ensure LEAN Design principles are applied appropriately.
  • Identify process deficiencies and help develop solutions for improvement.
  • Assure system and product quality by confirming fabrication, assembly, and installation processes
  • Create 3D models of design details per design standard methodologies
  • Prepare manufacturing drawings to ASME Y14.5 standards using GD&T for manufacturability and repeatability in Catia
  • Ensure compliance with safety/regulatory standards
  • Complete other tasks as assigned

What you can contribute:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering field, Master’s degree preferred (an equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered)
  • Experience designing components and assemblies for aircraft interiors, including but limited to, cabin lighting, control modules, power distribution and converters, etc. is required
  • Experience with prototyping
  • Experience with LEAN/Six Sigma
  • Significant experience leading multiple priorities independently and/or in a team environment
  • Strong verbal, interpersonal, and written communication
  • Detail oriented and deadline driven
  • Expert research, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in Catia V5 or V6
  • General understanding of ASME Y14.5

You may also be able to contribute:

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience preferred, but not required
  • Project management experience
  • Experience with development programs
