Business Development Director

AARP

This is a Contract position in Anaheim, CA posted April 15, 2022.

Overview: AARP Services, Inc., founded in 1999, is a wholly-owned taxable subsidiary of AARP.

AARP Services manages the provider relationships for and performs quality control oversight of the wide range of products and services that carry the AARP name and are made available by independent providers as benefits to AARPs millions of members.

The provider offers currently span health products, financial products, travel and leisure products, and life event services.

Specific products include Medicare supplemental insurance; credit cards, auto and home, mobile home and motorcycle insurance, life insurance and annuities; member discounts on rental cars, cruises, vacation packages and lodging; special offers on technology and gifts; pharmacy services and legal services.

AARP Services also engages in new product development activities for AARP and provides certain consulting services to outside companies.The Business Development Director is responsible for sourcing, assessing, and securing for commercial provider-related opportunities for categories including, but not limited to, Lifestyle, Travel, Technology, Caregiving, Home/Services, Dining, Financial Services, and Health.This position represents ASI and AARP in the development and creation of new opportunities, securing deals, and developing new business models that enhance AARP brand equity, increase the breadth of appeal of AARP membership, and drive incremental revenue for AARP.Location: Position may be based out of any of the following AARP Services Offices: Washington, D.C., Burlington, MA or New York City (Midtown).

Responsibilities: Lead business development activities and complex analysis of AARP value exchanges, contributing to development of new business relationships and business models for new relationships.Lead outbound prospecting activity.

Develop prospect lists, strategies and conduct outreach to the marketplace.

Maintain a deep understanding of assigned industries and relevant players.

Expertise in making outbound inquiries.

A highly effective communicator with an executive presence who can clearly articulate the AARP value proposition and quickly adapt to varying and sometimes challenging situations.

Lead the creation of market scans and opportunity assessments to support the development of Concept Documents and Business Cases.

Lead RFP/RFI process including requirements gathering, market outreach, and final selection with coordination from all relevant AARP stakeholders.Effectively communicate AARPs position in the marketplace and negotiate the best possible agreements that maximize AARPs assets and drive/support revenue and engagement goals.Adhere to CRM and Business Development reporting and activity tracking protocol and requirements.

Understand and effectively execute team processes and policies.Lead internal collaboration with all necessary functions and resources to create and implement effective business development solutions and programs.

Qualifications: Bachelors Degree requiredMBA or graduate degree in Business, Marketing, or technical discipline strongly preferredBig-5 Consulting or top-tier strategy firm experience a strong plus10 years of experience in related industries with 5 years of business development or sales experience.

People management experience preferred; matrix team management experience a strong plus A professional with a proven track record of successfully meeting and exceeding business development goals and developing strategic relationships at the executive level.Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions.
