Quality Control Supervisor- Food Production and Manufacturing

Description:
Department: Quality Assurance and Food Safety
Supervises QC staff responsible for quality control testing of plant products and gold standards.
Ensures manufacturing processes are capable of producing product that meets or exceeds specifications.
Mentors and motivates associates, providing training and development to optimize their performance and personal growth.

Ensures all associates have the resources and capabilities to effectively accomplish their responsibilities.
Resolves complaints about products, maintaining necessary records regarding the problem’s resolution.

Meets with vendors, customers and quality representatives and other company staff to discuss and resolve quality issues.
Recommends, as appropriate, the suspension of production or the release of product when quality standards are not achieved.
Leads and/or participates in quality audits of the plant.
Develops, maintains and reports required operational information to management.

Ensures all quality-related information required for regulatory reviews and reporting is maintained by the plant.
Ensures that all GMP and Safety standards are in compliance.
Keeps abreast of latest manufacturing technologies, systems, and quality control practices.

Maintains a comprehensive understanding of all products manufactured by the plant as well as the raw materials, packaging materials, and operations required in the manufacturing process including quality specifications and standards.
Food Safety Responsibilities
Follow all GMP’s, food safety, and quality policies.
Report all food safety incidents such as ingredient and product contamination, metal detector, screen, or magnet deficiencies, glass breakage, and pest harborage to Plant Management team
Provide leadership in the areas of food safety, food regulatory compliance, and product / process quality
Support in the development, implementation, employee training, corrective activities, and maintenance for all SQF Systems; including: Document Control, HACCP, GMP’s, Processing Practices, Employee Training, Equipment Calibration, Pest Management, Cleaning & Sanitation, Formula Management, Facility & Equipment Maintenance, Sanitary Design, Water Quality, Foreign / Extraneous Material Control, Allergen Control, Supplier Approval and Vendor Management, Distribution, Traceability, Food Security, and Waste Management.
Support all facility departments and staff in making decisions regarding food safety, quality, and integrity of the product.
Lead and conduct various audits related to quality and food safety (traceability, sanitation, GMP’s, employee practices).
Accompany officials during regulatory inspections, providing adequate communication and corrective action.
Encourage continuous improvement in areas of quality, food safety, and SQF elements.

Perform annual verification / validation of SQF system
Communicate quality and food safety industry, legislative, and scientific updates to plant staff.

Requirements:
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE :
5 Years minimum experience in food production and manufacturing and/ or related field.

USDA/ FDA/ SQF is a plus.
HACCP Certification is a plus.

BA/BS degree in Food Science, Engineering or related field or similar experience in years of QA/ QC experience in a food-processing, pharmaceutical or chemical manufacturing organization
Demonstrated knowledge and application of statistical process control, quality assurance techniques and tools and quality management principles in a food, chemical or pharmaceutical manufacturing environment
Understanding/knowledge of FDA and USDA food regulation
Working knowledge of FDA regulations, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), HACCP, food allergens and pest control
Demonstrated knowledge of efficient and safe manufacturing operations to include product and associate safety, OSHA standards, product quality (success rates), and cost control (minimizing downtime and waste, optimizing yield)
Demonstrated ability to direct, coach, and train associates as well as plan, monitor and schedule work
Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems
Demonstrated ability to formulate and understand complex mathematical equations including basic statistical analysis
Proficient using Excel or other spreadsheet software
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Will be required to perform tasks such as lifting up to 50 pounds, walking, standing, climbing, reaching, stooping, pulling, pushing, grasping, and balancing as part of production activities out on the floor.

Will be required to see and hear well enough to understand associates questions and respond to their concerns.

Will be required to work in freezers, near noisy machinery, near confined spaces as part of daily production activities.
